The cognitive approach Empty Re: The cognitive approach

Outline two assumptions of this approach

The cognitive approach developed in the 1950s as a direct result of the building of the first computers as the first cognitive psychologists recognised that people may process information in the same way that a computer does. Cognitions are involved in everything a person might possibly do. Memory, attention, perception, language and thought processes (problem solving) are the subject matter of cognitive psychologists and these are all integrated so that they can work together to respond to the things that are happening around us. Cognitive psychologists suggest that the way we think affects our actions.A key concept in the cognitive approach is the idea of schemas. Schemas are little packets of knowledge that we hold about the world and help us to make sense of the things that are happening. Schemas aid us in recalling information and they have an effect on how we remember things.
